aining a reputation as an inspired, emotionally committed performer, Troy King
is becoming recognized as a rising talent in the classical guitar world.
After impressing the judges with what they described as "...beautifully phrased,
gorgeous playing..." Troy won first prize at the Fifth Annual Portland Guitar
Competition. Other accomplishments include winning first prize at the Lamont
Chamber Music Competition and being selected as one of only two guitarists to
compete at the IV Manuel Ponce International Guitar Competition in Mexico City.
Troy King has performed recitals across the United States: performances marked
by an intense, passionate commitment to his art, and the ability to emotionally
connect with audiences.
Troy holds a Bachelor of Music Degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music,
where he studied with John Holmquist, and a Master's Degree from the University
of Denver, where he was the teaching assistant to Ricardo Iznaola. He has given
masterclasses at festivals such as the V Summer Guitar Workshop in New Mexico,
the American Music Festival, and many guitar and music societies.
